More about our Human and Animal Educators

Dawn White is the founder, owner, and educator at IREEC. She has worked as a naturalist and environmental educator since 1996, when she graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Park Management, with a concentration in Environmental Interpretation.

Dawn started her career at Great Valley Nature Center in Devault, PA, where her fondness for birds of prey and teaching with wildlife developed. She has designed and implemented various environmental education programs for children and adults alike during her work at the Nature Center and other non profit organizatons.

IREEC values its education volunteer, Shannon, who assists with monthly animal husbandry and programs, as needed.

IREEC’s animal ambassadors include seven raptors (hawks, owls, a vulture), all non releasable due to disabilities from injuries sustained in the wild. Dawn holds the required state and federal permits for these birds, and each animal has its own outdoor housing, built to specifications required by law.

Two snakes, two turtles, and a tarantula round out the animal residents. These animals enjoy life indoors, and frequently watch their humans from their enclosures.
